Next-to-the-Last Long Weekend
It's Monday again, and this is the last week of our fun summer short Fridays. I'll miss all the fun we have been having on our afternoons. I feel like this year I've actually been taking good advantage of them, so I'll be sad to see them go. This past Friday, several of the gang from work went to the Orange County Fair together. We visited several animals, saw some kids do some sad hip-hop, ate snow cones, browsed through the products tent, watched some of our group on a crazy ride, checked out the Peking acrobats, and admired the woodworking exhibit. Our time was short but fun, and I had to race home so Ric and I could sign the paperwork on the investment house we're buying. I think all we have left to do is confirm a couple of items and wire the money, and escrow will be closed. We may have missed out on our opportunity for a renter, though, which is a bummer. Our escrow should have closed at the end of July, but the selling bank and our lending company had to bicker over some minor things, which delayed the process. Boo. That night, Ric and I went to see The Hurt Locker.
Saturday, I slept in as long as possible, just because I could. I got up late and lounged around the house for the most part, until it was time to get ready. Ric and I went to Joe's wedding, which was in La Mirada. I haven't seen Joe in five years and have never met his bride, so it felt a little awkward going at first, but luckily Amy and Curtis were there too, and when Ric had to leave early to go to his grandparents' in Palmdale, I hung out with them at the reception, and we had a great time catching up with each other. That evening, my sister and I enjoyed a savory meal at Roman Cucina and then went to see Julie and Julia.
Sunday I went to church and then headed straight to Lowe's to get some keys copied and buy some new flowers (we forgot to water the old ones). Then I took Ellie to the vet for some shots and had to give her a bath as soon as we got home so Pip wouldn't smell the vet on her and mistreat her. The bath wasn't very successful, since I got soap in her eyes and in her nose and she was blowing bubbles out of her nose. Whoops! Poor thing. I did a ton of laundry and dishes, watched To Catch a Thief, and cooked up some food for myself, then spent the rest of the evening watching TV.
Up this week:
Did I mention I got an awesome new food processor? I am hoping to start making some recipes that require use of it! I love that it matches my kitchen. Hopefully I'll have a chance to hit up either the Whittier or Fullerton Farmers Market this week; last week I went to the Brea one, which was a bit small and limited. Thursday is Jurassic Park at Movies on the Fox. Friday I'm probably going to go to the beach for my last short Friday. Not much else going on besides that!
Health updates:
Grandpa had surgery to clear up his arteries so he'll be less likely to have more strokes. Grandma is about the same as always, although the tumors are still growing and she will probably only live a couple more months. Ric has a hard time visiting them, since neither realizes how much of a burden it is for them to have chosen to live so far away from family and then expect every one to care for and visit them. I've got my six-month checkup for my back this Friday. Here's hoping it all looks good on the x-ray - I really have been trying to be good and limit my activities, but it's so hard when there's so much fun to be had!
