People I Want To Punch

April 27th, 2006

The following is a group of people I would like to punch, just for the joy in doing it.

Barry Bonds Barry you are ridiculous. Everybody you have associated yourself with has been busted for taking steriods, or providing steroids. You have a TV show that basically tries to convice everyone that you are a good person, but I don't think you are. So here is what I have to say to you, first admit you took steriods, then pull a Raphael Palmero, and quit baseball. Just tell us why you have to keep lying about "not knowing" and just say, "I did it." Wait no, the damage has been done. I want to punch you in your steroid shrunken testicles.

Eduardo Najera Ok, no one likes this guy. I mean, are you trying to be pretty, or are you just a homo? I mean, you try to be tough and pretty all at the same time. Unfortunately every time I look at you I get angry because you have a look on your face like you have never done anythng wrong in your life, and you get a foul called on you, and you get that puzzled look in your eyes saying "who me". Give me a break. I want to punch you, in your nose, then both of your eyes, beautiful.

Fred Durst You are not as cool as you think you are. Everyone else, just look at the picture and tell me why you would want to punch him. You are not a girl. You are not black. You aren't even talented Mr. Durst. You have piggybacked on talented people, and now somehow you still think that you are popular. There was a time when people thought you were cool, then they realized how much of a chump you were. I still think Scott Stapp would beat you up. I would love to punch you, right in your peepee, if I can find it.

Jon Stewart and Steven Colbert Hosts of the "Let's Mock Republicans Hour" err...."The Daily Show" and "The Colbert Report" on Comedy Central. Ok there was a time when these guys were incredibly creative and the shows were smart and witty and intelligent. Now, they do the same thing every show. Find a Republican, or Conservative idea, and make fun of it. I guess they are an easy target, they are the majority in the US. They actually believe in something and will stick with it even if it is unpopular. I guess making fun of people with convictions is really easy, especially when you associate yourself with people who think not believing anything is the best thing in the world. Don't get me wrong I love a good satire, but any joke gets old if it is told enough. I would punch you both in the jaw.

Bono I am aware that there is poverty. Why don't you put down the microphone and go to the poor and oppressed that you are making people aware of and actually help them. I am sure this is how your conversations went with world leaders:

"Hello"
"Hello world leader this is Bono, from the band U2, do you know why I am calling?"
"Why hello Bono, good to hear from you, I would love to know why you are calling."
"World leader are you aware there is poverty in your nation?"
"Yes. In fact I make my policy in a way so that the US will give me money to do something about it while I pocket the money. I am corrupt and will take it any way I can."
"Oh, well as long as you know. How are your kids, I have millions of dollars to spend on this and I have only been on the phone for 10 minutes, because every world leader seems to be aware there is poverty?"
click
"Hello....Hello?"

Sorry Bono, I want to punch you in your smug little face.

Wow...you truly have no clue about Bono, do you?

And Stewart and Colbert are hilarious.

A little more...

You do realize that Bono has almost singlehandedly brought global poverty to the attention of the western world, right?

And is very much responsible for things getting done, like dept relief, in third world nations.

But go ahead and call him smug. He has only done more to alleviate poverty than than you and I will ever even dream about doing in our lives.

I'll admit, Stewart and Colbert are really funny, but they haven't had a new joke in three years.

With Bono, I am really against things that just bring awareness to the problems. I would rather raise money to help poor people than to bring awareness to it. Then again maybe that is just my bias.

Sorry...but this doesn't make much sense. He has had a greater impact on reducing extreme global poverty than probably anyone else in the world.

He has almost singlehandedly brought the discussion of poverty into the picture. That alone is impressive. But he has not just started the conversation, but he was worked to create change. Bono is helping poor people, much more than you or I.

I was with you until Jon Stewart and then really not with you at Bono. Maybe you should do some research before saying things. In addition to raising tons of awareness, he started things like the Jubilee 2000 campaign which succeeded in getting many countries to erase debts owed to them by 3rd world countries. He donates millions upon millions of dollars to charities. He is a spokesperson for several charities and helped start the One Campaign which has done a ton of things to help fight poverty. He and his wife started a clothing line that is produced by businesses in third world countries which has given thousands jobs and helped kick start many economies in those countries. He is doing a TON. I don't know where you get the idea that he isn't.

Just a few links:

A bono Bio page:

Bono was recently awarded the 1999 MTV Free Your Mind award for his charitable work, particularly with the Jubilee 2000 campaign. He has also been heavily involved with NetAid and Warchild, to whom the profits of the 'Miss Sarajevo' single go. These are the latest in a series of worthy causes that have been championed by Bono. U2 have always been serious about their politics, Bono especially.

An article from the SF Gate:

Bono's commitment to Africa goes back to 1984, when he and his wife volunteered for six weeks in an Ethiopian refugee camp at the same time a record by a little-known Irish band about the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., "Pride (In the Name of Love)," was making noise on American radio. Bono is now a leading spokesman in Western politics for the entire continent. He has been seriously considered as a Nobel Peace Prize candidate.

He has held three meetings with President Bush. He is on a first-name basis with Cabinet members. He is conspiring on matters of Third World poverty with Bill Gates. In one of his most public persuasions, he got conservative former Sen. Jesse Helms, R-N.C., in a private meeting, to change his position on AIDS ("he got emotional," Bono said). And, perhaps most surprisingly, he has forged a remarkable alliance with evangelical Christian groups.

Yes, Bono talks a lot about poverty. I don't think this is a bad thing. But for every word that comes out of his mouth he backs it up with action.

I'm sure John Stewart would stop making fun of republicans if they would stop doing such stupid crap. He does make fun of democrats, too, by the way.

My biggest problem with Stewart and Colbert is that all they do is political satire now. There was a time when the daily show, at least in my memory, made fun of all news, not just politics. I have a hard time watching the daily show anymore, not that it isn't funny, but that there is no variance in what they do.

I guess what made me put Colbert in with Stewart is when they had the guy from the Daily Kos on, and Colbert asked him what the problems with democrats was and he said that most dems don't believe in anything. Then later in the interview Colbert asked what politicians he liked, he named a few people and then said "Anyone with a D next to their name," to loud applause from the crowd.

I really had a problem with that whole sequence when it concluded, and that is why Colbert in inb with Stewart.

There is no question that both Stewart and Colbert lean to the left. But regardless of their bias, their humor is very intelligent and thoughtful. And they are just as willing to make fun of Democrats (and rightfully so) just as they make fun of Republicans.

And you haven't responded to anything we said about Bono...

The Daily Show has been mostly about politics for as long as I've been watching it. If you want more satire about pop culture then check out Best Week Ever or the Showbiz Show. The simple fact is that nothing in the news provides better comedy material than Washington politics. In 2004, Jon Stewart said that whichever candidate won the White House would give him plenty of material.

Not sweat shops, if that is what you are implying. The local people actually run the businesses and it is a healthy work environment. I read an article about it but I don't know where. Just because something is in a third world country doesn't mean it is a sweat shop.
