I can't respond to my posts because I am getting this error:

So I will resond here.

I think that it is the Church's job to help those who are poor and needy. I think it is a personal responsibility put upon Christians to do this. It is the Church's, and the Christians job to do this. It was a job given to the Christians, and thus it might also be the most effective means to evangelize. Of course when we pay taxes, and say that it is the governments job to take care of the poor and needy, then we make it the governments job to do it. And even though people are involved in helping the poor through the government, it is the government doing the work and the government sacrificing. I believe that this takes control of the job that the Church is supposed to do, and makes the Church flee from the job. Thus the Church and Christians are not sacrificing their own money to reach out to the lost and helpless in the world, but they are letting the government do it for them. Maybe that is why I am opposed to it.

I know I have talked about abortion before. More defenseless and innocent babies have died because of abortion, than in all the wars in American History combined. How do you think God feels about hands that shed innocent blood, Proverbs 6:16-19 of course maybe I am not following 19. When you talk about the lives of millions, yeah it is a big deal. I will agree that we need to let our faith determine our political decisions. Its just that I don't see the Church or Christians today doing what they are supposed to because they let the government do it all for them, and they think that just by going to church on sunday and paying their taxes they are doing a great work for God.

I will end this post by saying that the problem with the world is not poverty or disease or natural disasters or war. The real problem in the world is that people are sinful and lost. As a Christian it should be my first priority to evagelize according to the abilities and gifts God has given me. Maybe I need to do this better.

First...to comment, change the url from smiles.brendoman.com to brendoman.com/smiles. Then it will work. Its just that I don't see the Church or Christians today doing what they are supposed to because they let the government do it all for them, and they think that just by going to church on sunday and paying their taxes they are doing a great work for God. I strongly disagree with this. First, you do not know what my personal life looks like, and how I act as a follower of Jesus. Just because I advocate certain thigns through the gov't does not mean that I think that the church should not be doing anything. But there are some things that the church cannot do. The church will not be able to end povery. The church will not be able to give healthcare to the millions in America who cannot afford it. The church cannot, by itself, create peace and end war.

You are right, I don't kno what your personal life looks like. I didn't mean to attack it. I like you Dave, and that is why I comment on your beliefs. If I didn't like you I wouldn't care. I think I said that the problem with the world isn't poverty. Poverty will never end. There will always be poor people. I think it is the Church's job to help thos in need, and to share Christ with them. You are right, there are things a church can't do. I agree peace is better than war, but it is not the Church's job to make peace and war with nations. We are to be at peace with all people, but this is an interpersonal relatioship, not necessarily a government one. The church may not be able to give health care. But dang it, if there someone in my family who needs help, and if I had the means to help them I would. If there were someone in my church who needed help, I would help them too. One of the big reasons why I don't like the government being involved in helping people and being the the first choice of problem solver, is that it makes the Church and the family do less, and thus when the Church, that being the universal Church, runs from what it is supposed to be doing, the world becomes a very scary place.

By the way...for your comment/individual archives... Go into your configuration page in the movabletype menu. Change the archive URL form smiles.brendoman.com/archives to brendoman.com/smiles/archives Then save and rebuild your site. That should fix things. I am not sure why it did this, but it did this on my cubs blog too.

Does making peace mean to be totally passive? Can't war bring about peace? Settling disputes is what a peacemaker does, it doesn't mean to be completely passive and to appease, but to make sure that all parties are living in accordance to how they are supposed to live.

Being a peacemaker does not mean to be completely passive and to appease. But it does not mean coming up with alternative (non violent) means to achieving peace.

Sometimes making peace means you have to be agressive, and maybe violent with the person who threatens it. Remember Neville Chamberlain, he declared peace in our time. Of course he did non-violent things to stop Hitler, and we all know how that turned out. All he had to do was tell Hitler no, with the help of France, and march troops and WWII more than likely would not have happend. Then maybe he would have declared Peace In Our Time.
