Just a Thought

This is just a thought I had, and maybe obvious to others. It's the result, I think, of a couple things said in sunday school today, comments that seemed to presenta a god who is mostly concerned with the behavior of both the church and those outside the church. A god who bases his interaction with us based on whether or not we are following all the rules we are supposed to follow. A god who is a bookkeeper.

The thought:
I think that God calls us into communion with him, not so that we will "live right", but because he loves us and wants us to be in communion, in fellowship, with him.

Oswald Chambers presents many cases that the only thing that matters is our relationship with God through Christ. Surely as our personal relationship depens we should/will desire to live in a manner that sets us apart. All of the stuff we do is as filthy rags as to our salvation. If one could do anything of value to God what would be the need for Christs crusifiction, resurection, and assention?

I agree that God is not a scorekeeper, but he is conceerned about how we live. As our relationship with Him grows we will live our lives more closely to how we should as Christians. Don't forget His Grace. Where would we be without it. Also remember eternal salvation does not depend on how we live.
