Select Smart

This is kind of the last minute, but before you vote in the Presidential primaries (assuming you have not yet done so), pick a candidate who matches your views and values. A novel idea, I know! But with news organizations focusing mostly on candidates' personalities and war chests, I get the impression that too many people are clueless about what candidates actually stand for.

I made up my mind some time ago to vote for Barack Obama, even though the perpetual longshot Dennis Kucinich has traditionally matched my views most closely.

Today, however, I went on SelectSmart.com, a site that asks questions about your political views and lets you rate them as high or low priorities. Check out who my closest match is:

Select

It makes me feel even better about voting for Obama, knowing that he may actually be the best fit for my political views, and not merely the best of the candidates that remain.

Now you try it. How well does your candidate of choice match your positions?

Obama was tops for me, too. 94%. I like how that site lists Stephen Colbert as a real candidate and you can read his positions on all the issues.

Yea... Obama has actually been at, or very near, the top of my list in almost every "test" I have taken.

Though many of them have had Kucinich at the top followed by Obama.

Dan: I found out about this site from a Civics teacher in my school, who had his students complete it. Before he showed it to them, he tested it by first picking the most liberal positions he could, and then the most conservative. On the latter set his top match was Stephen Colbert.

Like the other tests I've taken, Kucinich is at the top but Obama is close behind. Nice find, Kyle.

Hi Kyle - looks like I support McCain closely followed by Obama so the election should be win/win for me. As an Englishman though I don't get a vote. Love to your family, James.

Apparently I supported a bloke called John Hagelin in 2000.

Hi Kyle,

Found your post as a result of a Google search on SelectSmart. I was searching for a "impartial" source of information on the presidential candidates and SelectSmart was one of the top hits. My top 6 as per their questionaire:

Theoretical Ideal Candidate (100%)
Ralph Nader (67%)
Barack Obama (66%)
Dennis Kucinich (withdrawn) (66%)
Cynthia McKinney (63%)
Ron Paul (concedes nomination not possible) (61%)

It was surprising to me that Ralph N. topped the list. :/
