Quick Rundown of Stuff

As Jesse Spano once said, there's never any time. So just a quick bit of things:

This blog is awesome. Thanks to @grndl for the heads up.

I am super bummed Yahoo is shutting down Delicious.

I finally got my hands on a near mint copy of The Ghostbusters Roleplaying Game, complete with the Ghost Dice and it is all kinds of awesome. I'm hoping to bust it out soon at my weekly game.

I saw Black Swan last night with Jon and Grace. It was nuts. I loved it.

I am totally freaking out about the announced Freaks & Geeks and Undeclared reunion at PaleyFest next year. Holy. Crap.

Have a good weekend!

Fall 2010 TV In Review

So the first half of the TV viewing season is pretty much over. Rubicon is still canceled and that still kind of bums me out. Just a quick run down:

Things that were awesome:

1) Mad Men
2) The Walking Dead
3) Rubicon (Sob...)
4) Community
5) Dexter
6) Weeds
7) Boardwalk Empire
8) 30 Rock
9) Bored To Death
10) Eastbound and Down
11) True Blood
12) Glee

Things that I think were awesome but most people probably don't:

1) 90210
2) The Vampire Diaries

Things that were sometimes awesome:

1) The Office
2) How I Met Your Mother (Kyle McLaughlan is the best thing about this season)

Things I forgot to watch and feel guilty about:

1) Friday Night Lights (I think it started on DirecTV but I don't have DirecTV and am too lazy to torrent. Justin?)
2) Fringe (DVR ate first few episodes and I just kind of forgot. Sorry Fringe, I still like you a lot. Maybe we'll catch up at Christmas.)

Honorable Mention Re-Runs That Are Awesome:

1) Everything on The Hub

Coming up in a few weeks I will post the new shows I am looking forward to in the next 6 months. So how do you guys feel about TV this season?

Amazon Fail

I'm having a problem and when I really start to think about it, I know it's a really silly thing, but it still bums me out. I love Amazon Prime. It's one of my favorite things. I like that I can order an item when it is on sale and not have to spend at least $25 for free shipping and I get it insanely fast. It especially makes holiday shopping a breeze. One of the highly touted features of Amazon Prime is free Release Date Delivery for select items such as video games and movies. This has been pretty awesome, up until now.

Several weeks ago I ordered the Collector's Edition of World of Warcraft: Cataclysm. Yeah, I'm playing WoW again. That happened. Anyways, the product featured the much famed Release Date Delivery but to my disdain when I got home from work yesterday it was not there. I checked the tracking number and it showed the item as still in transit. It hadn't even shipped until that morning. Even though the Amazon tracking was still touting my delivery date as December 7th, Fedex was saying the real story. I wouldn't be flying in Azeroth until the 8th. Yes, I know, it's only one day. But I can't play today. Or tomorrow. I was all set to play yesterday. If I had known Amazon could not deliver on their advertised service, I would have purchased the Blizzard direct download so I could play the game as soon as it launched.

A strongly worded email to Amazon received a form email reply that didn't even address my actual issue and a promo certificate for $10 so they could get me to spend more money. I'm going to call today to try and talk to a person. I don't want money, I just want to know what happened and why I should ever buy something for release date delivery ever again. For a minute I almost swore off Amazon all together, but I know everyone makes mistakes, even awesome shopping websites. I did cancel my video game pre-orders I had with them, at least for now.

Update: I just got off the phone with Amazon. I am very pleased with their customer service. I was able to talk to someone on the phone immediately. I guess their initial form response just really rubbed me the wrong way. The person I spoke to on the phone gave me an explanation, which is really all I wanted. I don't think that was too much to ask for. All is well.

We're Back

I'm not sure if anyone noticed but and all hosted sites were down this weekend. Thanks to Danny for saving the day. I'm pretty excited because Neil Gaiman is going to be at the Smodcastle tomorrow. Wednesday morning I'm headed up to Modesto for Thanksgiving so there will probably not be any further updates this week. Hope you all have a good holiday!

what's up duuuuudes???

i got a new laptop a couple of days ago and i love it! it has put me back in semi-computereric mode. i even downloaded the WoW ten day trial and have been playing that a bit. i'm having trouble getting sucked-in like i used to with other mmoprg's, which is probably a good thing... i have something in my brain now that tells me i am waisting time or i get off the computer and zone out on the couch.

umm, yeah.

i haven't eaten solid food since last monday. i have wanted to do the master cleanse for the past couple of years and never have... but i haven't had shit to do lately, and no money, so i figured it was the perfect time to stay at home and starve myself. i'm not really following it exactly, but it's crazy. i feel awesome. it's like i'm doing a science experiment on my body. i am hungry as fuck, though.

i been readin': pretty much nothing. facebook. i have like 10 books started and no motivation. i am very lazy and foggy as of late.

i been watchin': the office, 30 rock, espn3 on my xbox, random documentaries on netflix on my xbox, veronica mars, and i seem to be running into dr. phil and rachel ray quite frequently.

i been playin': halo: reach, madden 11, world of warcraft.... word dojo on the megatouch machine at my girlie's bar..and also photo hunt on the ol' megatouch.

i been lissnin' tuh: not a whole lot.. the submarines - honeysuckle weeks, the strokes - is this it?, spoon - ga ga ga ga ga, 3 different flaming lips albums... and radio songs... other shit..

well that's it for now.

Around the Tubes: Red State, Bagged & Boarded, Rubicon

Hey guys, what's going on? I have been busy. I hurt my foot on Halloween which put me out of action for a couple days but I have recovered quite nicely. Here are some things that are cool and not so cool.

Kevin Smith just announced a new podcast on that is all about his new movie, Red State. Kevin did a screening of the teaser he put together for the movie at Smodcastle last week and recorded the whole thing, which includes the audio of the teaser and some Q&A afterward. It was really cool seeing people's reactions to the teaser and Kevin's enthusiasm for the whole thing. The most amazing thing about Red State? It's already done! Kevin edited the film while he was shooting and showed a complete cut of it at the wrap party. That's INSANE and awesome. Since I know folks are going to ask, consider this my official "No comment" regarding all things related to the movie itself. If you want to know the scoop direct from the source, be sure to subscribe to the aforementioned podcast.

Speaking of, Matt and I recently got the news that the amazing podcast network will soon be the new permanent home of our show, Bagged & Boarded. This coincides quite well with our new sponsorship by Golden Apple Comics and our move to Wednesday nights. Our first show on the network will most likely be the show we recorded last night with Tim Sale to benefit The Hero Initiative. I had a great time listening to Tim talk about his career and what he has in store for us in the future. Special thanks to Ryan at Golden Apple for helping put it all together and bringing cool swag for all the folks in the audience.

In bad news, I just read that Rubicon was canceled. I am bummed because this was one of my favorite new shows and I think they finished up the season quite strongly and I was eagerly awaiting what would happen next. I can't stay too mad at AMC though as The Walking Dead is amazing and of course there is Mad Men and even though I haven't watched it yet I have only heard good things about Breaking Bad.

Finally, I guess I really don't want this blog to just become a promotional tool for the various things I have going on. If you have ideas on things for me to post about or if you would like to post here about pop culture, geek stuff, and the like, feel free to hit me up.

Long Beach Comic Con!

Today marks the beginning of Long Beach Comic Con! Last year I had a lot of fun and this year definitely looks to be more of the same. I'm a little bummed I won't be able to attend as much of the con as I would like to due to my Smodcastle duties but Phil and I will be there tomorrow morning at 11 AM to host the Webcomics Meetup in the Seaside Lobby. We will have the usual stash of Brax stickers to give out as well.

I am also looking forward to cruising the con floor and hopefully picking up some goodies and seeing some friends. I definitely plan on getting my copy of Machine of Death signed by co-editor David Malki. If you see me there on Saturday, please be sure to say hi!

Things I Can't Wait For: The Walking Dead

Yes, Mad Men and Rubicon are over for the season but that doesn't mean we have to pout!

I am super pumped for this show. My friend Matt B and I went to the panel at Comic-Con and it looks super awesome. It was cool seeing how pumped Darabont, Kirkman, and the cast were for the show and the amount of work they have put into making it a good translation of the graphic novel. Halloween can't come soon enough!

RPG Blogroll

This post is serving two purposes. First, I just noticed that you can make blogrolls or your folders and tags from Google Reader by going to your settings and then the folders and tags section. Second, some folks have been asking me about what RPG blogs and other resources I have been subscribing to and this is a very easy way to list those. So here we go!

To make it even cooler, you can make pages featuring the latest posts from those tags, such as my RPG blog page and then other folks can subscribe to the feed for that page. It's kind of insane how many different ways there are now to aggregate and consume content. I think Johnny 5 would have flipped out over RSS and all its potential uses.

The Wonder Years back on TV!!!

My buddy Derick informed me that thanks to the new channel, The Hub, I will now be able to watch The Wonder Years again. Before this the only thing I had were copies I made of VHS tapes of the Nick at Night run borrowed from a friend. In addition to The Wonder Years, they also show Fraggle Rock, Family Ties, Doogie Howser, G.I. Joe, and another not on DVD classic, the live action Batman show. Yeah, this might be the only channel I watch from now on.

Video of the Day: Michael J. Fox Back To The Future Teaser Homage

This really put a smile on my face. If you've seen the original teaser, you know just how awesome this is. Props to Michael J. Fox for doing it. Speaking of BTTF, I am really looking forward to the Blu-Ray release later this month. The quality of the transfer that I have seen looks incredible!

What are you up to?

That is the question I've been getting a lot lately. Unfortunately what I'm up to does not really involve this site. Hopefully that will change a bit in the future, but only time will tell. What I'm up to right now involves pretty much three things:

1) Work.

2) Smodcastle, particularly Bagged & Boarded.

3) Dungeons & Dragons.

Right now what little free time I have left after work and Smodcastle I spend either watching TV (still totally behind on everything) and playing or planning D&D. I have a new group I'm playing with that I am doing the Dungeon Mastering duties for. It has been a blast so far! Speaking of D&D, there is a cool contest going on at Troll in the Corner! They are giving away a bunch of Essentials gear.

On the B&B front, we are having Keith Coogan, star of such films as Adventures in Babysitting, Toy Soldiers, and Don't Tell Mom, The Babysitter's Dead on the show on Friday. If you are in the area, come on down! If not, feel free to post your questions here!

Comic Con to Stay in San Diego

Geekscape has the press release:

Comic-Con International: San Diego (Comic-Con), the largest comics convention of its kind in the world, today announced it will be staying in San Diego for the foreseeable future.

Comic-Con reached a self-imposed attendance limit at the San Diego Convention Center (SDCC) in 2007 and has had to cap attendance at approximately 125,000 people each year since. In looking at ways to better accommodate the growing demand from attendees and exhibitors, the nonprofit organization considered proposals for a move to larger facilities in Los Angeles or Anaheim after the expiration of its SDCC lease in 2012. This decision keeps Comic-Con in San Diego through 2015.

So there you have it. See you in San Diego!

G4 Spotlight on Smodcastle

G4 did a cool feature on Smodcast and Smodcastle for the Attack of the Show blog. I know a lot of people have asked me what exactly Smodcastle is and this video gives you an inside look. Probably NSFW due to language. Also, Matt and I have a brief cameo!

Zombie Outlaw

A friend of mine, Brian Apodaca, has created quite a comic book and was nice enough to send me a copy of it to check out. The title of the book is Zombie Outlaw and it is available for purchase here. It's a pretty cool story that takes place on a college campus where two friends manage to unleash a zombie deep in the bowels of the library and I'm guessing chaos is going to ensue in future episodes. The writing is very clever and the artwork fits the tone of the book quite well. I am definitely looking forward to future issues. Check out a preview page of the book by clicking here.

Feel free to chime in with your pics in the comments.

Strange Things Are Afoot on Bagged & Boarded

We've got some big guests coming to Bagged & Boarded Live at Smodcastle. Last Friday night we had Guillermo Diaz and it was a blast. This Friday we have Michael McMillian from True Blood. The show is at 10 PM and tickets are only $10! You can also buy a four show pack and pay the price of three shows. If for some reason you can't come this Friday, you'll definitely want to be there on the 17th as our guest is:

Alex Winter, aka Bill S. Preston, Esquire, from Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure! We'll be asking him questions, maybe doing a little rocking out on stage, and other cool stuff you won't want to miss. For tickets and more show info, head over to the Smodcastle site. If you are a cool celebrity and would like to appear on Bagged & Boarded, please hit me up. Thank you.

Happy 9.02.10 day

Let's all celebrate our favorite zip code and the mother of all melodramas! What's your favorite episode? I can never decide. For some reason the episode where Donna takes over P.A. duties for David and the show ends with a tracking shot through the hallway as "Stand By Me" plays in the background always sticks with me, but who can forget Brandon's brief gambling career and Kelly's stint as a cult member? Ah, memories.
