erc BoxOffice: Kevin Smith Takes on "Dicks"
Warner Bros. recently confirmed a date with director Kevin Smith. The View Askew auteur's next film, "Couple of Dicks", starring Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan ("30 Rock"), will go down January 29th, 2010. Teaming with a big wig studio is a departure from previous Smith films, which have typically been released under indie labels like Miramax and Weinstein Co. But with superstar Willis on board, you just can't skimp on the craft services and honey wagons. No word yet on the plot, but expect this comedy caper to be more of a mainstream product than previous Smith efforts, especially since he is not currently listed as a writer on this project. Robb and Marc Cullen have screenwriting credit; Robb of the TV series "Las Vegas," "Gary the Rat," and "Heist." Hopefully, Kevin Smith will add a generous helping of his "stank" into the mix in the form of gratuitous rude behavior and slanderous one-liners. C'mon, where else are kids these days going to pick up their new slang from, if not Kevin Smith films?
This news is very surprising for two reasons: first, it's his first project since Mallrats that doesn't involve the Weinsteins. Second, it's the first film project he didn't write, which is something he previously said he didn't want to do. However, in recent Smodcast episodes he has talked about how he said that years ago and feels he has matured greatly as a filmmaker since then. He's also made vague hints that his next project might not be Red State. If this is indeed the case and this news is true (it has yet to be confirmed by the man himself), I am very excited. First off, the teaming of Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan sounds fantastic and I thought Tracy Morgan's bit part in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back was great so it would be cool to see them work together again. It's also nice to see that maybe Bruce Willis wasn't lying when he said he wanted to work with Kevin again after he appeared in Live Free or Die Hard. Hopefully I'll be updating this post soon with a confirmation from Kevin.
UPDATE: Confirmed!
