On Saturday I saw Nada Surf and Ozma at The Blue Note with Trebuchet opening. Here's the rundown on the show:

Trebuchet, a local band from Columbia, opened up the show. They were pretty darn good. Their bass player was very energetic and they had a singing drummer, so they put on a good show. It was really cool to see their bass player in the crowd during Ozma going nuts. I give them:

I hadn't really heard much of Ozma before I went to this show, but they immediately became one of those "Where have you been all my life?" bands. In addition to one of the finest renditions of the Tetris song that I have ever had the privilege to hear, there were many other wonderful songs. They had two great guitar players as well as a gal keyboard player/singer. In case you don't know, I dig female musicians. She also played the flute, which was rather interesting. Some of the songs were vaguely familiar, so I think I've heard some of their stuff before. I'm definitely going to be purchasing some of their music in the future. Great band, great performance. I give them:

After over two hours of great music, Nada Surf came onto the stage. If you think the only song these guys have is "Popular," you are severely deluded. I had been re-introducted to them last year thanks to Jeremiah, so I knew a lot of their songs. The crowd was really into it and the band really seemed to feed off their energy. They played for over two hours, including a 6+ song encore. They finally played "Popular," but they only got through the first chorus and then an amp blew out. The singer said it was a sign from God that they weren't supposed to play the song, so they played a few more and finished out the show in style. They also played some great covers of "Love Will Tear Us Apart" and "There is a Light That Never Goes Out." Usually, I hate Smiths covers because they are one of my favorite bands and usually people don't do them justice, but Nada Surf did a great job with one of my favorite songs ever. Very cool. I give them:

All in all, it was an excellent show and well worth my $8. tomorrow I return to The Blue Note with Hodges and Tyler to see Taking Back Sunday and Saves the Day. Tonight we'll be introducing our latest member of the brendoman.com blog team. His first post will be the write up on this week's Chester of the Week. Stay tuned for that.
