Peter,

Katie just referred me to your blog
In response to your previous post, American cannot trust Barack Obama. Here are a number of reasons.

1. Barack Obama would like to redistribute the wealth, but you won't see him sharing his. From his released tax records, here is a detailed summary of his charitable giving from 2000-2006.

In 2000, his AGI was $240,505. His charitable giving was $2,350, less than 1.0% of his income.

In 2001, his AGI was $272,759. His charitable giving was $1,470, .5% of his income.

In 2002, his AGI was $259,394. His charitable giving was $1,050, .4% of his income.

In 2003, his AGI was $238,327. His charitable giving was 3,400, 1.4% of his income.

In 2004, his AGI was $207,647. His charitable giving was $2,500, 1.2% of his income.

In 2005, his AGI was $1,655,106. His charitable giving was $77,315, 4.7% of his income.

In 2006, his AGI was $983,826. His charitable giving was $60,307, 6.1% of his income.

Katie and I, though we make substantially(!!!) less than Barack Obama, have consistently given more than Barack Obama and Joe Biden. Obama wants the government to redistribute the wealth, because he knows that you can't count on him to do it. Joe Biden's numbers are even more abysmal.

Clearly, they cannot put their money where their mouth is. We can't count on them to lead by example and we surely can't count on their words.

John McCain, in contrast, has given freely and abundantly. In 2007, he reported $405,409 in total income and contributed $105,467, or 26 percent of his total income, to charity.

In 2006, McCain said he had $358,414 in total income and donated $64,695, or 18 percent of his total income, to charity.

The clear choice is John McCain. If every citizen gave to the church and to those in need as McCain does, we would be turning a deaf ear to Obama's socialist entreaties for redistribution.

2. Obama's claim that he will cut taxes for 95% of working Americans is ludicrous. The Wall Street Journal, and other noted newsprint media, have questioned where this 95% figure comes from. 33% of Americans do not pay taxes. The Tax Foundation estimates that under Obama's plan, 44% of Americans will have no income tax and will receive money back. This will soon rise to cost us $1.054 trillion dollars, four times the actual cost of welfare.

This is basically an income transfer from people who work and pay taxes to those who do not work or do not pay taxes. As incomes rise, the "tax cuts" disappear, creating a huge, unforeseen rise in marginal tax rates for low to middle income wage earners. As low to middle income workers work overtime and their hourly wage or salary rises, their tax rates will spike to ridiculous levels. At $45,000, your tax rate will be 40%.

Some families with an income of $40,000 could lose up to 40 cents in vanishing credits for every additional dollar earned from working overtime or taking a new job. The tax credits are sold in the name of "making work pay," but in practice they can be a disincentive to working harder, especially if you're a lower-income couple getting raises of $1,000 or $2,000 a year.

3. Did you see Obama's interview with Rick Warren, failing to answer one of the most significant moral questions of our day, believing it was above his pay grade? Harry S. Truman, a Democrat, said "The Buck Stops Here." Where is that attitude with Obama? He wants to pass it off.

4. In 2002, as an Illinois legislator, Obama voted against the Induced Infant Liability Act, which would have protected babies that survived late-term abortions. That same year a similar federal law, the Born Alive Infant Protection Act, was signed by President Bush. Only 15 members of the U.S. House opposed it, and it passed the Senate unanimously on a voice vote. obama blocked this in Illinois. His pro-abortion stance is among the radical seen in legislators.

5. Barack Obama, and his wife, Michelle, support partial-birth abortions. In 2004, Michelle Obama sent out a fundraising letter claiming the partial birth abortion ban was unconstitutional.

Partial birth abortion is one of the most atrocious acts to be performed upon living humans. There are two methods by which it is conducted. You can either dismember a child in utero or stab it in the back of the head and vacuum out the contents. Barack Obama supports this barbarous act. How can we support him with America's future, our education system, and our lives? He may try to dodge the issue by calling a child a "fetus." "Fetus," in Latin, means "baby," or, "infant."

I have many more points concerning why concerned Americans should not vote for Barack Obama, if you are interested.

He is no champion of the poor nor of his own race. Dr. Alveda Scott King, the niece of MLK, Jr., does not support Barack because of his radical stance on abortion. She states that abortion is legal genocide. If a leading civil rights activist opposes Barack Obama, shouldn't that cause us, as Americans, to be concerned for the rights of our citizens and our livelihoods.

Obama has spent an incredible amount of money on his campaign. His expenditures are unprecedented. This is the same guy people want in office? It will not change.

He has avoided questions(why did it take him so long to get to Afghanistan, where did the 95% come from, etc.) and flip-flopped like a fish out of water. He is not good for America. He is dangerous, untried, uninformed, ill-prepared, and lacks experience.

I urge you to vote for McCain as he is clearly the better choice.

A different perspective if you will.

1.Obama doesn't have a wife worth millions, I want to see their joint returns charitable giving.

Except, they don't have one.

2. 95% of working Americans, indicates 95% of WORKING, INCOME earning Americans, thus the 95% refers to 95% of people making an income. But if you are worried, check your income here http://taxcut.barackobama.com/ and see what comes up.

I save 1000 with Obama, $150 with McCain

3. I think deferring to God in cases of our major moral questions is probably wise.

4. HE does have a liberal abortion attitude. It is very disturbing. Although, he is the only one with plans ot help people who have unexpected pregnancies, so that counts with me... esp. since I can't see roe v. wade overturned.

5. I don't know about that one, I can't find it when I google it, so I dunno.

6. Almost every major civil rights leader from that era has endorsed Obama including MLK's children. Also, prominent republicans endorse Obama, showing that he has bipartisian support, notable support comes from Eisenhower's grandchildren.

For evidential support here is a short list of current Obama endorsements for more http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obama_endorsements

I think he could be good for America. He is reasonable, intelligent, well-informed and advised, and has a plan, and frankly, we could use a plan.

But I support your Vote regardless of who it is for Peter, I hope you make the choice that you feel led to and you feel confident in it. Let me know, If I can answer any further questions as to Obama and his candidacy, I studied him pretty well before deciding to vote for him.

Also, check out www.factcheck.org and ontheissues.org, both sides are guilty of mudslinging at this point, you should probably google everything you hear.

1. You cannot justify Barack Obama's stingy giving patterns. My wife and I, who make far less than Obama, have given more than him, year after year. Cindy McCain does not release her tax records, but John and Barack did. John clearly gave more than Barack, there is no comparison. You cannot justify Barack's failure to give when he expects everyone else to.

2. You got your information from Barack Obama's website, which is paid for Barack Obama. Of course it is going to tell you what you want to hear. It is not objective. The Wall Street Journal and many other organizations have printed objective analyses of his program and found it deceitful and wanting. He is redefining welfare by calling it a tax cut. By the way, the objective reports state that low income families will be penalized for working more by being taxed forty cents on the dollar. You need to look at the objective truth, not his personal website. That is like asking the Castro family why Cuba is such a nice place to live. You won't get the truth. By the way, the Castro family, known civil rights abusers, support Obama. Hardly a chance correlation!

3. We have deferred to God and God has spoken. The Bible is quite clear about God's value of the unborn(Ephesians 1:4, Jeremiah 1:5; Psalm 139; countless others) and children. God values children, Jesus rebuked the disciples for discouraging them from coming to him. Jesus told us to have the faith of a child, to willingly trust in Him. God is clear that we should not murder and abortion is murder. Anyone who reads the Bible and determinds abortion is acceptable does not value the Word of God, has hardened their heart, or has been blinded by the world.

My friend, Bonnie, is an African-American pro-life activist. She sent me this:

Do you know what the leading cause of death in the African American Community since 1973 is? Think about it for a minute. Is it heart disease-2,266,789 deaths since 1973, cancer-1,638,350, or accidents-370,723? Is it AIDS-203,695, or violent crimes-306, 313? There is one possibility that is often overlooked. It happens 1452 times a day in our community. It has taken over 13 million Black lives within the last 30 years. It has taken 1/3 of our present population. What is it? ABORTION!

Don't believe it? Well, you don't have to, but you would be a fool not to because the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has provided the tragic statistics. According to the CDC, since 1973, the year of the Supreme Court Decision Roe vs. Wade, 13 million (13,000,000) African American lives have been lost to abortion. The CDC reports that of the approximately 4000 abortions that are performed daily in the United States, 1452 of them are performed on African American women and their pre-born children. This means that although African Americans represent only 12% of the population of the United States, they account for 35% of the abortions performed in this country.

Obama is an enemy of minorities. He has knowingly participated in the murder of citizens and individuals who could have changed America, advocated civil rights reform, brought advances through industries, and made America the land it should be. He is no friend of minorities and no friend of America. He cannot even defend the basic rights of the defenseless.

4. Unexpected pregnancies...what do people expect to happen when they have intercourse? Ridiculous. People should be responsible for their actions: if they conceive a child, they should take care of that child.

5. Michelle Obama's letter has been plastered over the media. This heinous letter is not hard to find. She too is dangerous, believing partial-birth abortion is acceptable. In this procedure, a live baby is either dismembered in the womb or its head is stabbed with scissors and its contents removed. The Obamas support this abortion! What an atrocious, abominable act! Surely they will be held to account for their approval of this serious sin.

6. Many people have supported known civil rights abusers in history, that does not make it right. I don't understand how people can support him when he has contributed to the slaughter of millions of African-Americans, Hispanics, and other minorities. He is no advocate for civil rights or for the poor(who will pay forty cents on every dollar they make under Obama's marginal tax rate). The WSJ will affirm that as will any critical analysis of his plan.

Barack Obama does not have a plan for withdrawal from Iraq. He does not have a plan for Afghanistan. He was chair of Senate Foreign Relations Committee's Subcommittee on European Affairs, why did it take him so long to get to Afghanistan? When pressed on that question, he has never answered it. Joe Biden does not have an answer for it. Barack does not. He simply didn't go and the SFRCSEA suffered under Barack's inadequate leadership.

By the way, Democrats credit their decision-making on the Wall Street bail-out to Barack Obama. He is no champion of the low or middle class.

One last point, Peter. From 1989-2008, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac showered campaign contributions. Here are the results:

1. Chris Dodd
2. John Kerry
3. Barack Obama
4. Hillary Clinton

They were benefitting from this scam ever since the Clinton administration. Barack has been greasing his palms from the mortgage crisis while McCain has been screaming for reform. The numbers, voting records, and statistics are clear.

Barack Obama: you can't trust him and he is bad for America.

I don't think arguing politics on Peter's blog will help much, you have your opinion, I gave my counter opinion with links. We could go round for round, but I have given my reasons for support, I will resist my reasons against McCain, as I feel it isn't conductive, plus, I live near Peter and see him all the time so he can just ask me.

I don't believe that either John McCain or Barrack Obama are bad for minorities, nor do I think I am a bad christian for voting Obama, nor do I feel like I have a hardened heart or whatever else you were saying.

I hope you understand my opinion (if not respect the difference) and that I didn't say anything that insulted you (as one of peter's friends) on the blog. You are more than welcome to your opinion and thoughts on both candidates, and I hope you enjoy your voting experience this year.

Have a nice day!

Well, I guess we're talking now. Whew.

Matt, your points about redistribution are somewhat ironic, especially in #1 of your first comment. Seems like you're saying that you and McCain are actually more in favor of redistribution than Obama--it's actually pretty funny if you reread it assuming you're making the opposite case. And I actually was going to make the same observation about Cindy McCain that Shanelle made--while it doesn't account for the difference entirely, it should at least mitigate the margin between them. I have some more thoughts about redistribution, but I am actually thinking of starting a new post about it later.

About tax cuts, I am not sure I buy your reasoning that Americans from any economic level will be less inclined to try to make more money. All tax rates aside, they will be taking home more money. This sounds like the typical Republican line that welfare moms want to be on welfare and homeless people want to be homeless and people in bad situations basically deserve it one way or another. I have argued at length with a good friend of mine that a Christian understanding of ethics and justice is better than the atheist alternative. But I have also come to the conclusion that the brand of ethics and justice many American Christians subscribe to is perhaps the worst of the three options.

About abortion, I think we're in the same basic place with regard to beliefs (even if the list of typical pro-life scriptures does not present as airtight a case as you intimate), although tactically we probably have some differences. What about the fact that McCain has no real plan for helping the poor? What about the fact that increasing economic aid to women with unwanted pregnancies is the best way to prevent abortion?

On Abortion: I think we definitely need a legal action in place, but with that, need to be supporting young women. But we don't say that we need to give more support to rapists before we make it illegal. And because I think it is murder, I think it should be illegal and punishable. Even when the pregnancy is caused by rape, I still believe it is murder. If someone is shot and becomes paralyzed there is nothing we can do but prosecute. Their body will be like that whether they want it to or not. I am not saying I would like the idea of carrying a baby that was given to me by rape, but it isn't the babies fault, and again, they have no rights, it sickens me. Well, that is my rant on that, but as Shanelle said, it is very likely that we will see Roe vs. Wade overturned, unfortunately.

That being said, I spent all last night trying to figure out who I was going to vote for and why. Abortion is a major issue, and I can see that it might get worse if Obama were elected (like partial birth abortion might become legal again). But my bigger issue ended up being the war on terror. Obama talks a lot about poor people in the U.S., but when you look at the atrocities committed by governments overseas it pales in comparison. My heart breaks for single moms in this country, and people with addictions that are searching for truth, and kids that live in essentially parentless homes. But it is still nothing to what it is like, and been like living in Afghanistan or Iraq in the last 30 years. The worst part is, I don't think the U.S. has always taken the right side on these things, and I don't think that military action will change the hearts of people. But I do think that as a stronger military power, we need to be responsible for preventing genocide when it is within our power, and trying to help those countries out of the state they are in. I don't know that the war on terror is the best way, but I haven't heard a different or better way from Obama or many of the democrats that keep bashing the war.

So this is my 2 cents, and I guess I figured out who I am voting for.

Thanks for your posts Peter.

Take care that you do not limit yourself. Many guys restrict themselves to what they think they can do. Remember you can gothat far as your mind will let you.
