Video of the Day: Improv Everywhere Does Ghostbusters at NYPL

Not only is it funny but the Improv Everywhere guys did the stunt to raise awareness for the massive budget cuts the library is facing so that makes it twice as awesome. I really would love one of those jumpsuits. Hat tip to Angie for the link.

I don't know the context of this picture and frankly I don't care. It just made laugh out loud and I thought I would share.

Link of the Day: Download More RAM

The next time someone in your family is pestering you because their computer is "acting weird," just send them to this site. I can honestly see it having a sort of placebo effect.

Look in the sky!

My friend Amy made this to celebrate my success at the new job. Sorry about the sparse updates. I'm going to be updating our b2e install tonight sometime so there might be some hiccups.

If anyone has some things they would like me to post about or if you just want to speak your mind, feel free to comment. I haven't seen a movie in the theaters since G.I. Joe and I saw that for free. Things were super tough for awhile towards the end of the great unemployment stint. I did go to a test screening for Jason Reitman's Up in the Air, which was brilliant. I also saw a test screening of Zombieland, which I believe comes out next weekend. I highly recommend it.

WTF of the Day: Splat Balls

Phil and I were browsing the clearance section at Wal-Mart the other day and were amused by this:

Splat Balls

If you think the product name is funny, then check out the first warning message:

I really think they could have worded that a little better.

Best Early April Fools Joke Ever

UC San Diego sends wrong e-mail to rejected students | L.A. Now | Los Angeles Times

UC San Diego Admissions Director Mae Brown said this morning that an ?administrative error? was responsible for a bogus e-mail that went out to 28,000 students congratulating them on their admission and welcoming them to the campus.

The applicants had been denied admission by the university earlier in the month. Someone accidentally sent the e-mail to the entire applicant pool of 47,000 although it was intended for only the 18,000 students who got in, Brown said.

I feel bad for those kids, but that's pretty damn funny.

How Kirk was able to Bang Every Girl in the Galaxy.

I was watching Star Trek on Joost last night while I was grading. I looked up from a paper on dualism in Zoroastrianism and saw this:

Now that explains some things. The episode was "What are Little Girls Make Of?" where some scientist cat is able to make an android Kirk out of some green foam. This is the same eppi that featured Ruk, a Lurch in a Amish dress:

The Most Misunderstood Blog Post Ever

Fake company names

I needed to come up with a list of fake company names for a demo site at work. I started making up company names, but then I realized that there are plenty of company names in popular works of fiction. I found a few lists online and compiled my favorites into this list of 123 fake company names. Feel free to use it if you need something similar. And if you're really bored, look through my list and see how many you can identify.

Danny posted this almost two years ago and at first people got it. There's some humorous comments about fictional companies. Then things went in a completely different direction. Somehow Danny's post became THE place on the web to report a fake company who was taking folk's money. Some guy even requested Danny to do something about it:

Yes ,Dellsys is a fake company in Bhubaneswar Acharya Vihar.

They dont provide mail-id and bank account.

Its a pure fake ...please beat Prodosh kumar dash.He is cheating ppl

Wow. How does one go from a list of fictional company names to thinking Danny is a goon for hire?

LOL of the Day: Sylar and Son

Image courtesy of the fine folks at Topless Robot. Is anyone still watching Heroes? I think it's actually been on the rebound lately. Well, enough to keep me sort of interested. If Daphne dies though I might be done.

WTF of the Day: Tucson Superbowl Porn

Yesterday I got a voicemail from Gringo that said something about porn and the Superbowl in Tucson. I didn't quite understand what he meant until I got home and read this:

Tucson, Arizona was probably not the best place to watch the game last night. Partly because of the disappointing result, but mostly because of the huge, flapping penis.

With under three minutes left and just after Larry Fitzgerald's heroic comeback(ish) touchdown for the Cardinals, the video feed abruptly switched to a scene from stablemate channel Club Jenna, treating viewers to the sight of seemingly omnipresent porn guy Evan Stone swinging his junk around like a maniac. This interlude lasted about 30 seconds.

Wow. Imagine if this had happened on a larger scale. It would make Nipplegate look like Sesame Street. That's still a lot of customers though and I'm sure there are a lot of upset viewers. I'm guessing Gringo witnessed the whole thing first hand so I'd like to hear his thoughts.

Even though the Rickroll is fading in the meme world, this is still awesome. Props to Astley for having a sense of humor about the whole thing. Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. I'm off to San Diego for my ten year reunion tonight!

Chuck Klosterman Knows What's Up

A Brief History of the Twenty-first Century - Esquire

2074 TO 2078: Robot vs. Animal War.

MAY 4, 2079: The Robot vs. Animal War concludes with the Kenya Peace Accords. The animals get Africa, Asia, North and South America, and Australia. Europe and Greenland are conceded to humans and nonhuman mechanical life. Antarctica is a free zone. The majority of remaining Earth people migrate to the moon, where overpopulation becomes an immediate problem.

I knew the guy was a good writer, but he also appears to be quite the seer.

List of the Day: How It Was in 1998

The Comedy Feed » 9 Reasons It?s Better To Be A College Freshman Now Than It Was In 1998.

7. We wasted our time looking forward to the Star Wars prequels.

We?d have to wait an entire year before our childhood hopes and dreams were murdered by George Lucas, while Jar Jar Binks shat on their corpse. We didn?t know any better.

Having entered college in 1998, I can say that all these are very true and also made me laugh. Honestly, I don't know what I would add. Maybe that we still had to dial in to get internet. I remember my first year at Biola the nice dorms had just gotten ethernet but the poor kids still had dial-up. I also remember crowding around someone's Macintosh Performa (!) to see a tiny trailer for Episode 1 and thinking it was the greatest thing in the world. Also, the peak of multiplayer gaming was Goldeneye. I can't believe that was TEN years ago.

McSweeney's Internet Tendency: Anticlimactic Twilight Zone Episodes.

Ah, McSweeney's. You are awesome.

Where Is Everybody?

A man emerges from his office to find the hallways mysteriously devoid of co-workers. He wanders the silent, empty building looking for signs of life but finds no trace of humanity other than coffee brewing, purses slung over chairs, and folders lying open on desks. Suddenly, he remembers a mandatory meeting in the first-floor conference room.
